These cookies melt in your mouth and make an excellent cookie for Christmas.
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup icing sugar or confectioners' sugar
3 large red maraschino cherries cut into quarters
3 large green maraschino cherries cut into quarters
6 whole almond nuts split in half
6 whole cashew nuts split in half
2 tsp. crushed or pulverized Cinnamon Candies

Preheat oven to 350 F.
In a mixing bowl, using an electric mixer, combine butter, flour and icing sugar and beat until mixture has a very smooth consistency; beating for about 4 to 5 minutes.
Roll dough into 1 inch balls and place on parchment lined cookie sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
Using a drinking glass with a decorated bottom, press bottom of glass into flour, then press dough balls down.
There are several ways of decorating the cookies.
1. Using both green and red maraschino cherries cut into quarters, place one piece in the centre of the cookie, alternate red and green to get a decorative display of cookies.
2. Use half of an almond nut placed in the middle of the cookie.
3. Use half of a cashew nut place in the middle of the cookie.
4. Sprinkle very generously with crushed or pulverized Cinnamon Candies.
Bake in preheated 350 F oven for 15 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes.
Transfer cookies onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Store cookies in a container with a lid and separate each layer with wax paper.
